At the ripe old age of eleven, Rita began writing Girl From U.N.C.L.E. episodes after her favorite television show was canceled. Sr. Mary Andrews, her homeroom teacher, set aside thirty minutes each week for Rita to read the latest adventures of April Dancer and Mark Slade to her classmates. Fast forward to 1989…pursuing yet another dream, Rita opened an Italian-Japanese restaurant in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. She began writing late at night to relax from the long hours the restaurant demanded. She went on to write "Sweet Bitter Love," published in 1997 by Rising Tide Press, (New York), contributed several short stories to magazines, and to two anthologies, "Early Embraces" and "New Beginnings," (Alyson Publications, CA).
Rita is also the host of the Blog Talk Radio show "Talk To Me...Conversations With Creative, Unconventional People."

The Magic in Me song, produced as a companion piece to The Magic in Me storybook by Maggie Moran, has become a hit with children and adults everywhere. Composed by Jamie Notarthomas and Rita Schiano, the lively tune explores the message that there is magic in every child.

Inspired by the tragic events of September 11, this song addresses the heroic actions surrounding that day. Songwriters Jamie Notarthomas and Rita Schiano (The Magic in Me) teamed once again to create a song we believe will one day be considered a classic. Painting The Invisible Man by Rita Schiano
In 2001, while researching the online archives of her hometown newspaper for a client, freelance writer Rita Schiano made a keying error—a simple mistake that led her to a path she’d been avoiding most of her life; on a journey inside the world of her father, killed gangland-style more than two decades ago.
Schiano turned that difficult journey into an engrossing novel, "Painting The Invisible Man," which explores the complex dynamics of growing up in an Italian family on the fringes of the Mafia.
