I never thought of myself as a "writer" per se. Although I have been writing music for a few decades, I'd never written any words other than lyrics.
The characters of Green Glen have been trying to come out through me for 30 years or more. I started drawing Lou and the mushrooms while still in high school. Later when I got into clay, I created many versions of Lou and the Fairy Clan.
The other characters came about in the late 1980s when my twin daughters were just toddlers. The Disney channel had their version of MTV called "DTV"
which played music videos for kids. I got a little tired of hearing the same songs over and over, so I decided to write my own children's song. That is when I wrote the song "Fun" which was the first step in the story of Green Glen.
At that time I was drawing pictures to go along with the song. I drew Green Leaf, Brown Leaf, and Daisy. Louie and Cornelious would come in later. I'd always pictured it being a children's TV show, or a music video for kids.
I got into computer animation using Amiga computers. At that time it took a long time to create anything more that a looping animation, so once again I shelved the idea.
In the late 90's I got into Flash which made animation much easier than it was 10 years earlier. By this time my daughters were in high school and I really didn't think much about children's songs anymore.
In 2008 I decided to finally put it all together.  I created an animation in Flash to go with the song "Fun" and uploaded it on YouTube. Still thinking it would be a TV show I started writing in a note book. I thought about the characters, who they were, where they came from. That is when the book "Welcome to Green Glen" was born. The message of cooperation, and taking care of the environment was never so prevalent as it is today. I feel this is an idea who's time has finally come.
