Dave Moyer is the author of the novel Life and Life Only and several published short stories. He is currently a school administrator in the suburban Chicago area. An avid Bob Dylan fan and former drummer, Moyer was a college baseball coach prior to becoming a school administrator, and has managed two players who currently pitch in the major leagues.
Moyer's novel is a reflection on what he calls, "The myth of the American Dream."
"At the University of Wisconsin, I read The Great Gatsby on three different occasions. I became fascinated with that novel and how it relates to the current culture in America."
Moyer's novel takes place in the suburban Chicago area tracks the dreams and heartaches of pitcher Dan Mason and his quest to pitch in the major leagues. The music of Bob Dylan is set as the backdrop to accentuate the current social, political, and cultural challenges today's youth face as they try to make sense of the chaos.
Moyer cites A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving and Indignation by Philip Roth as inspiration for his book.
"I had a story in my head and I couldn't get it out. The title came to me (Life and Life only comes from the Bob Dylan song, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)), and this was just about the time I was finishing up Indignation. It finally came together," Moyer said.
Moyer resides in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
