Living My Dream

Background Information

I am a retired Professor of English and French. I have all of these thoughts rolling around in my head and I am urged to get them on the waves. My students had to write poetry as a part of their learning process. You never know whether a sleeping poet sits among us. So they asked me what had I written. At that time I had not done anything major, just enough to show them where I wanted them to go. after that question, I started writing and I have been doing so every since. I keep a tablet or notebook in my bed to jot down ideas as soon as I awake. Sometimes a lines come to me in my sleep.

My inspiration was writers like Maya Angelou, Emily Dickenson, Langston Hughes, Melvin B. Tolson, e e cummings, Robert Frost, Frank Yerby, Toni Morrison, Robert Hayden, Richard Wright, James Weldon Johnson, Ralph Ellison, just to name a few.

My father was a folklorist. He told my brother and me many stories that I would classify as folktales, when we were children. My Mother used to tell us bedtime stories that included our family and things she and her siblings did as children.

One of my future projects is a book of some of the stories they told me.
