Thank you for visiting "ITS ABOUT THE LIGHT". In poetry and photography, it really is about the light. The light that is seen and reflected; the light that is felt and shared.
I'm a poet and photographer. I wrote my first poem at age 12. The childhood gift of a toy camera sparked my life-long interest in photography.
A 'Baby-Boomer', I was born in Tempe, AZ., and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. My work years were spent in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA.
I remember a moment while flying cross country as a young teenager with my family. My parents asked me and my sister, JoAnn, “What do you want to do with your life?" She answered immediately that she wanted a career in journalism, and to be a writer. She fulfilled these ambitions through positions in both the private and public sectors, and in retirement.
Then they turned to me: “What do you want to be?” I agonized in response. What shall I tell them? I didn’t have a clue about what I wanted "to be". Now, in reflection, I realize my internal, unconscious answer was simply, “Yes. That!”
My career included positions as teacher, coach, public speaker, facilitator - leaving a light footprint in the world of achievement. Throughout, I struggled with the requirements and definition of "succeeding" in the work-a-day world. And I always found solace in poetry and quietude. It is in retirement that I have found my true success – "to be" with Spirit. Yes! That!
I live in the hills of Oakland, CA., with my life partner, Cindie, who's a Certified Financial PlannerTM, and our kitties - one indoor and seven outdoor!
I have published two collections of poetry & prose - the first about an external journey; the second, about an internal journey:
”The Casual Commuter – Riding With You on Your Way to Work” is a collection of vignettes about the people, situations and experiences of commuting via that unique Bay Area informal transit system called the Casual Carpool, as well as AC Transit buses and BART from eight different addresses in five cities, on a personal odyssey over 25 years through four Bay Area Counties. Whew!
“Trembling at the Threshold – Encountering the Divine in Daily Life" is a collection of poetry and prose about spiritual awakening and my personal experiences of the Divine, illustrated with some of my photos.
