I'm Alexandra Nicholson (people call me Nikki - for a few different reasons), I'm currently only seventeen years old, but if I was to chose my greatest passion, it would be words and stories.
My main motivation or inspiration for writing would be my grandmother; when I was about eleven years old I started writing a short story for her while she was sick and she loved it, told me that I had a way of capturing emotions with words, that I would make a good descriptive writer if that was something I wanted to do. She had a type of bone cancer, she was sick for quite some time, and when she passed away I promised myself that I would finish it for her.
Another reason I write is to try and capture the world in a variety of angles. I like to think about the way that people interact, with each other and with everything around them. I like to focus on those seemingly unremarkable moments, the ones that shape people, the ones they rarely mention to others. I like to show the emotions we all have and shed light on them.
The world fascinates me, to be blunt, everything does. There's so much in the world that we disregard, and it's usually those unnoticed things, things taken for granted on a regular basis, that have the greatest influence on us. I've often wondered if others see the world the way I do, and so I write; it makes me hopeful that one day someone will read my stories and begin to see the world that way.
