When I first read Kurt Vonngut in my early twenties, his rule-breaking style, humor, and provocative storytelling fed my soul and satisfied a thirst for words, images, and ideas that filled me with awe and wonder. It also inspired me to write. Woody Allen's early films also provided a template that felt kindred. Rachel Rosenthal, who conceived and founded "Instant Theatre," a Zen-based totally improvisational theatre company in Los Angeles, shook my world when I was 19 with her troupe's extraordinary, highly imaginative performances. I became a student and member. It is in the forms of novel, short story, and play writing where I enjoy the most freedom to express my innate love of the unusual that is both beautiful and profound. Here, I can create the shape, size, and dimension of the canvas; hence, have the most fun.
