The meaning of life, if any at all, is to create a meaning for life.

Background Information

Changming Yuan grew up in a remote village in mid-south China. To see a working motor pump, the first thing he saw that had to do with 20th century, he got himself 99% drowned when he was in grade 4. Yuan did not have exposure of poetry of any kind until he was 14. Before moving to Canada as an international student, he published several books and many journal articles about translation and the English language. With a PhD in English from the University of Saskatchewan, he teaches independently in Vancouver; since late 2005, Yuan has had poetry appearing in Barrow Street, Best Canadian Poetry, BestNewPoemsOnline, Cha, Istanbul Literary Review, the London Magazine, Poetry Kanto, Salzburg Review, Taj Mahal Review and nearly other 370 literary magazines / anthologies in 16 countries.

Accomplishments

Yuan's greatest achievements are his two sons-George Lai and Allen Qing Yuan, as well as two poetic lines: 1)There is light in every dream we have in darkness; and 2)Mask is the only garment that will never go out of fashion. He hopes that the link form he has invented and termed as "Siamese Stanzas" will eventually become his most important poetic invention. Since 2009, he has been nominated three times for a Pushcart Prize.

Additional Information

In 2009, Yuan had two books released: one was a monograph titled Politics and Poetics: A Comparative Study of John Keats and Li He (LAP, Berlin), and the other a poetry collection Chansons of a Chinaman (Leaf Garden, Murfreesboro, TN). Currently Yuan is trying to find a publisher for his three book-length mss of poetry. For quite a few years already, he has kept wondering why it is so particularly difficult for him to get his collections published while tens of thousands of other people have succeeded in doing so, though many of them have much weaker publication records. Under my influences and encouragement, my 15-year-old younger son Allen Qing Yuan, who has been fighting against a disk problem since October of 2008, has not only begun to write poetry but also had some of his own poems published in Madswirl, Zouch, Istanbul Literary Review and other literary magazines.
