I love old movies - classics like The Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby, Charade, His Girl Friday and more. The clothes and language may be dated, but you can feel the heat and see the sparks. The conversation was rapid-fire and sometimes you have to watch them multiple times to catch it all, but that was no hardship. They're real entertainment.
I like to write the same way. You know the tension's there, even if you don't see it all. You can be sure the good guys win and the bad guys get their just reward. But it may not end the way you think, and you've got to keep turning the page until you know.
I want to make you stay up past your bedtime reading them. At least, if Cary Grant's not on TV. Then you can read between commercials. It's okay. I won't mind.
