I began writing when I was 12 years old. I found that my style of writing was not only an avenue of self-expression, but it was also unlike anything previous writers had done before.
While I also write for the Paranormal community in TAPS Paramagazine (under my married name April Slaughter) poetry was my first passion and has enabled me to learn about my own unique writing style and to branch out in other genres.
My poetic admirations include Poe, Byron, Whitman, Dickinson, among many others. Poetry has always been a dependable, non-judgmental friend...a place where I never had to hide or make apologies for the way I felt.
For years, I have debated whether or not to publish this collection, as it portrays me at my most vulnerable moments. I share them now with you in hopes of reaching those who feel unheard. We all have a voice, and this is mine...
