Diana Raab is a memoirist, poet and essayist who has been writing since the age of ten when she was given her first journal to cope with the loss of her beloved grandmother. Her latest memoir REGINA'S CLOSET: FINDING MY GRANDMOTHER'S SECRET JOURNAL (Beaufort Books, 2007) won the 2008 National Indie Award for Excellence in Memoir and was a finalist for the 2008 National Best Books Award.
She began publishing her poetry later in life after being inspired by a reading by poet BIlly Collis, where she realized that poetry can be both readable and accessible. She now has two published poetry collection, MY MUSE UNDRESSESS ME (Pudding House, 2007) and DEAR ANAIS: MY LIFE IN POEMS FOR YOU (Plain View Press, 2008) with a preface by Tristine Rainer. Individual poems have also appeared in national publications and literary journals.
Diana has been very influenced by diarist Anais Nin and has read all her journals and lectures. Nin has helped her find her voice as a woman and has motivated her to express herself on the page.
Diana is a journaling advocate, teaching jounaling in the community. She teaches a course called, "The Writer's Notebook," at UCLA Extension Writers' Program and she also teaches memoir at the Santa Barbara Writers' Conference and various other conference and festivals around the country.
Diana just returned from two weeks in South Africa and had an amazing time. She hopes to write about her experience as soon as she gets over jet lag and has a chance to transcribe her journal.
