As a teacher, I found it an enhancement to encourage my students to read. It was important for me to find things the student enjoyed so that reading would be a pleasure. After I retired from teaching, I got the bright idea to write books for the kind of student I wanted to encourage. The best students already read well and the middle to slower students almost none at all, I found a way to get my students at all levels to read and to enjoy doing it. Reading well is a must for a good education and success in life.
In my background one can find that when I had a chance, I was taking college courses whether they were related to my work or not. I loved going to school even though as an early non reader, I had a very difficult time getting started with my own education. I finally ran into a teacher who encouraged me to read books I liked and to ignore those I didn't. Reading spreads like wildfire after a year or so and it becomes a habit, you are willing to read just about anything.
My recent books are fiction, speckled with mystery and situations that allows the reader to become part of the story by association. My book characters range from the teens to us older folks and the situations are very close to possible in every instance. It is still fiction and the reader understands that.
What has surprised me more than anything is that several church groups have gotten my books for their young people. I expected the schools to like to them, but I had no idea that religious youth groups would. There are a lot of suggestions to mystical events that I would have considered not suitable for most religions, but they seem to like what I have written,.
Life is a wonderful place to be, but when I find a better place, that is where I will be.
