Due to bypass surgery, Mike Smith, an Oklahoma truck driver, was deactivated by DOT. Then, after months of recovery, was finally released by his doctor and told he could return to work. But times had changed and so had his options. When Mike approached his former employer, he soon discovered that his job wasn't waiting. The door was shut and not just there, but just about everywhere. “Things are slow and we're just not hiring,” was the mantra.
But Mike, not one to fret, remembered the adage, “If life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.” In his case, life handed him a computer..... So he made a website. Actually, he wrote an ebook and posted it on the net, i.e., MurderAtMidnight.com As the name implies, it's a murder mystery and, with only 64 pages, is an easy read. Also, it's totally free.
So, if it's free, how does that pay the rent? “Affiliate programs,” Mike replies. By linking to other websites, he generates traffic for various merchants, then collects commissions from resulting sales. “No – I'm not getting rich,” he admits, “but it definitely helps.”
