I write fantasy. I've published in music and finance, but no fiction--yet. Now, I track my soul.

When I was a child I played fantasy games with my sister and brother until they thought they were too old to play with me any more--even though I was the oldest. I went to sleep making up stories that continued from night to night. At Princeton I disappeared from classes for a week to read Lord of the Rings. A lot of things happened, a lifetime's worth. Now I've come back.

Accomplishments
Degrees in music composition from University of North Texas and Princeton University. I taught briefly at Princeton and the University of Illinois. After working for the Index of New Musical Notation I mostly freelanced in New York. One year, while doing my taxes, I realized I was making more money writing how-to books than composing. The switch to writer was painless. I've been manager of the Society of Composers, Inc. for more than 25 years, a part-time job that has allowed me the flexibility to write and helped me pay the bills.
