Teaching has always been my strongest desire. And the flying business is the most unforgiving venue in existence, and in order to excel in it, one needs to understand not only the basics, but all the possible variables within it. All my students were special, because they led others into combat - the fiercest test for a human being. Directing a B-52 from thousands of miles away to a target no bigger than a shack, a navigator must think, feel and live ahead of his fast-flying airplane.
But there comes a time when all the training, hard work and inspiration must come from elsewhere - and that's not only the driving message of my life, but the underlying message of my book, Legacy. In any endeavor worth doing, it is worth doing to the best of the young navigator's ability. That's where I come in. I'm here to help. And many of my students are now giants in their field.
