For me, everything is an adventure, there is never a dull moment. After attending Lock Haven University, I enlisted in the U.S. Army.

In my new book, According to Grover, I try to capture the spirit of childhood stories and bring them forward in time, reminding readers that there is a good time to be had away from the television--all you need to do is open your ears to the stories around you and let your imagination wander.

Grover Cleveland Walborn, the greatest of many storytellers in my rural central Pennsylvania hometown of Michaelville, spent his time weaving tales both tall and short for the townsfolk. Growing up with Grover's musings had a great effect on me. I try, now, to bring Grover's style of storytelling to readers nostalgic for simpler times in simpler places.

In According to Grover, I introduce readers to people and places they are sure to remember long after they've turned the last page. From the first bite of a Growler (a local delicacy combining a frankfurter, mustard, onions and the Texas Testaurant's special sauce on a steamed bun) to the last trip "eight miles as the crow flies" to Lock Haven, readers encounter characters who know that baseball is a way of life and that time with friends and family is more valuable than anything else.

My grandchildren, fascinated by the fact that I grew up without a television and curious about how I spent my time as a child, led me to relate some of my favorite yarns and experiences from my youth. According to Grover shows that with good friends, good neighbors and good stories, growing up in the late 1930s, 40s and 50s could not have been better.
