Being Called by your Creator is not a highly esteemed vocation to most people, but to me, there was never a time in my life that pleased me more than hearing His Still Small Voice beckon me into a ministry that would take me from a moderate paying self employed company into a month by month watchman on the wall. Leaving my business behind was not a problem, and I did not mourn over it, but enthusiastically accepted the calling on my life to let HIM have the reigns of my heart and very breath.
If you want to understand Life More Abundantly, and you seek to be fit for the Kingdom of Heaven, this kind of calling will be the joy of your life, although your friends may not understand the move making light of the most important decision you will ever have for an eternity. The big caveat to them that is troubling is, how does one just give everything to what he cannot see, touch or feel? One asking those questions has not the inspiration nor the fortitude to successfully follow a leading Creator on a daily walk and at times moment by moment.
There are no cups, platters and rings to hang over trophies that will never be awarded, because these worldly attainable selfish treasures are beyond the desires of a servant. Serving others is a calling on ones life that is chosen by the greatest Servant of an eternity; one who knows the attributes of a servant and how to direct the feet of one seeking only the benefit of others. Yes a living is necessary to be had, but there are limits to what one aspires for his own selfless existence.
When one has his sight on a goal so far down the road that almost all cannot begin to focus there, what cares can a wall of trophies summons? Self in general, serves self with selfish motives that harbor selfish self made goals of selfishness. A Calling on the other hand is focused on the task that evolves daily and does not end until the last day unknown.
So speaking of one's self finds a common thread that discusses the great attributes one has, and his performance and masteries in the sight of men. Scripture tells us that the man's ultimate reward is exactly that, being seen of men. Scripture also tells us that a man is powerless to do anything good aside from His Creator. There can be many attributes brought forward to reveal a man's true self, but the real true self can only be seen through the eyes of his Creator. If this is the man's Calling, there is a reward unfathomable waiting, and it does not require a lifetime to achieve. I am thy exceeding great reward, says His Creator, and I cannot find nor care to look for anything beyond the ultimate gift.
The excellencies that I have performed in the sight of men are memories from past desires that faded and yes, they were enjoyable, but not boastfully purposed. These teach a person of the achievability of his purpose, and aside from that, a man must consider the ultimate prize, and answer the ultimate question, 'Was it all worth it, being seen in the sight of men,' and finding that he was really the master of nothing that matters beyond the veil of his flesh.
So my soon to be acquaintances, those who can see beyond the veil, there is a life we can share when we become friends, but the true spirit of the man will be found in what he does, and not in what he says, and there is nowhere to hide.
