Chicago native, Monica Handy has been fascinated with the "big picture" in life, every since she was five years old! Having the opportunity, as a child to take mini vacations with her great aunt served as a canvas for her ravenous imagination! The results began to spill into notebooks as poems and short stories. Non of this, however, was taken seriously because it didn't quite seem practical enough to earn a "good living".
Years later, after having three, of four children and becoming a wife she decided to take her aunts advice and go into the health field. But, just as she had gathered, there was "some" satisfaction but no real fulfillment.
In 2008, armed with nothing but a computer that had drained her savings, she looked for, and found blogging communities that allowed her to express Christian beliefs, and commentaries. A following of loyal readers developed motivating her to create a site that hosted an array of Christian, creative, and inspirational writers. The site brimmed with a certain energy generating invitations from other administrators to write for their, on-line magazines or to be interviewed. Monica accepted, but after two years, felt the need to grow. She wanted to move her brand outside of the blogging community in hopes of broadening its appeal. The next logical step was to begin an e magazine with the same concept of inspiration, motivation, and matriculation. COMING OUT OF THE WILDERNESS E MAGAZINE was born in June 2010. A contemporary Christian magazine, highlighting that "a different set of circumstances are always possible.
The magazine has garnered mixed reviews yet celebrates four and a half years of inspiring religious and secular reading communities.
In 2014, Monica Handy was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Sacred literature for contributions of inspirational Christian literature to the community. She was interviewed by Wellness of Eden Magazine as one of five women who inspire other women, Brandnewz, (an online media source ) by Imani Person and, Evangelist Darryl Gilliam of The Major Change Network and Foundation.
The year 2012 found her hosting a revival that crossed the threshold, and combined several churches for a three day revival entitled, The Chicago Fire - Upper Room Revival. It was in that same year that she partnered with Dr. Joseph B. Howard Sr. to establish his award winning novel, Battered Clergy From Victim To Victor, as a stage-play. The stage-play, under the direction of Alvin Malcolm Daniels of Halsted Media Works debut in June of 2015 to a sold-out venue! The play is gearing up for a second run in August 2015.
To date, Dr. Handy has four grown children, two grandchildren, two daughters in law, and one son in law, to be. There are two stage plays awaiting production, and one book entitled, And The Mirror Cracked -newly released.
