A former journalist, I was born in a logging camp in Northern California, trained horses for much of my life, and only recently became a high school teacher. I'm working on my MFA at Sewanee, The University of the South, and have seen my first book published. I'm a graduate of Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ, and Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington. Major influences in my life have been the South, where I found my writer's voice and fell in love with Southern literature; I read Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Cormac Macarthy, Pat Conroy, Anne Rivers Siddons, and a host of others. My book is based on my life with a supposed CIA agent; it follows the life of a young woman as she struggles to live up to the expectations of the Company, only to realize that she has been lied to. It's an intense, dark story about control and violence, and is being read by high school students, women, and a few (surprised) men. The reviews have been very good.
