Born and raised in Pasadena, California, the first hints of Brad Viking's life as a writer emerged while attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. A subsequent stint in the Navy catalyzed his love of the written word. Well-traveled, the author has toured Brazil numerous times and studied the Portuguese language. Major writing influences include Lawrence Durrell (especially Justine of the Alexandria Quartet), Allen Ginsberg, Tennessee Williams, and Albert Camus. The author has been writing for many years in a variety of genres -- novels, screenplays, poetry, essays, song lyrics and articles. Amazonas is work that had been festering for many years as notes for it collected in a box. Finally, a chunk of time was available and it was completed in about 3 intensive months, with another month for ruthless editing. "Cut, cut, and cut some more," says David Mamet. "So I did," says the author, "and I'm happy with the result... lean, tight, intense... with no words wasted. If I never write another book, it's my love letter to the universe."
