I am a retired Navy Senior Chief, retired Senior Logistic Support Annalyst, Lockheed Martin. Restored antique and classic cars for several years, still own 1946 Ford Coupe and 49 ford truck.

Background Information

I grew up on small share crop farms. Worked hard and went to bed hungry. Counted stars through the roof when it wasn't raining. heard the pitty patter on my bed when it was. Joined the Navy at age 21, five ft. seven in. 118 lb. Had a sixth grade elementary school education. Got out after four years, got married, went to school full time by day worked full time at night for two and a half years. Wife, kids and money problems, got sick and had to quit school. I had made a promise that my kids would never go hungry. After eight years I went back in the navy. Retired sixteen years later as a Senior Chief.  Worked at Lockheed Martin for ten years. Restored antique and classic cars until health prevented it. I was putting my bad life behind me until Grandchildren came along. I knew I had to go back into the far recesses of my mind and document my life for them. "NO WAY TO GO BUT UP" is my life, as best I can tell it.

Additional Information

Had three book signing events in the Atlanta area. Took part in a Literary Festival at Dahlonega, GA 2009. E-Mail from a friend in New Jersey: Dear Floyd, My friend returned your book yesterday. She was born in Germany and lived through the war there. I quote from her letter. "Thank you for the books I am returning today. I especially liked the one NO WAY TO GO BUT UP. To read about people who had to live under so much poverty is heart breaking. Floyd Yancy pulled himself up again and again and cared for his family. What resiliency he had to muster to adjust to the changing circumstances in his life. This takes strength of character. It is something to know a person like him. It sure makes us appreciate our wonderful childhood even when it was overshadowed by war." She captured our sentiments as well, but she put them into words.
