Betsy Murphy has worked in hospice care for 25 years. She worked for a large metropolitan area hospice serving in both administrative and direct patient care roles. For seven years of her tenure, she was a regional vice president and developed relationships in her community that rapidly increased the number of patients the hospice served. For seven years, Betsy worked in marketing and business relations, focusing on increasing access to hospice care for underserved populations. Betsy is both a writer and a hospice consultant. In 2006, she wrote the first chapter on end of life care for FA Davis and Co. entitled Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing. Also in 2006, she wrote and published the handbook for consumers entitled Guide to Caregiving in the Final Months of Life which is now in its second printing.
 
Betsy writes for nursing journals. Her last article was publlished in November 2009, entitled  In Search of a Peaceful Death in Clinician Reviews. She is a featured end of life expert on Allexperts.com and Ezinearticles.com. Betsy presents on end of life and hospice care both locally and nationally. Her last presentation was at the American College of Nurse Practitioners conference in October 2009.    
 
Betsy has consulted both privately with hospice clients and with a national hospice consulting firm for the past two years. She has written ADR letters, redetermination and reconsideration letters and has testified at administrative law judge hearings on hospice eligibility for a variety of hospice diagnoses. She works with hospices to write ADR letters, to evaluate the effectiveness of their clinical staff documentation and she provides training to improve documentation and thereby assure Medicare payment.
