Hello! My name is Suzanne Delaney.
I was born on a small island below Australia. Yes! that's right- Tasmania. I have lived most of my life in the U.S.
I am a Registered Nurse, Certified in Med-Surg (currently not practising). I also worked in Nursing Education after becoming Certified.
I am married ( no Children).
Since I retired in 1998 I have become very passionate about learning to write poetry.
My first exciting achievement was to be invited by Dale Edmands to be a featured poet
on his internet poetry site - Kookamonga Square.
He passed away in 2005 and his poery Site is no longer available.
Although we never met in person, I cherish his memory for the encouragement he gave me with my writing.
In 2000, I moved back to Australia to the Gold Coast in Queensland. While I was there in 2003 I won first place in a Literary Poetry Contest with the theme 'Miracles for a poem titled "Unicorn Hoofprints." In 2005 we moved back to Hawaii and have been here ever since. We feel this is home
for us.
The internet has been a valuable resource and I used to participate in several Forums that discuss poetry.
My reasons for writing are varied:
I write as a way of discovery
to my own spirit and to express
my reaction to life.
If someone can find inspiration
from my words or observations
I am all the more enriched.
I write mostly on my own philosphy, dreams, mystical themes, the wonder and beauty of nature (spiders in particular) archeology discoveries, death, war, suicide and betrayal.
My favorite poets are Rilke, Rimbaud, Roethke,Emily Dickinson, ee cummings, Auden, Wislawa Szymborska, Charles Simic,Pablo Neruda, Frederico Garcia Lorca, Wallace Stevens, Walt Whitman, Robert Frost and all of the great Classic poets including Oscar Wilde, Gerald Manly Hopkins and Baudelaire.
I have many hobbies. I love making collages, cards and paper flowers. I learned Floralpunchcraft and Quilling. I also make boxes decorated with Native Australian Wildflowers and was accepted into the Floralpunchcraft Teachers' Guild in 2003.
I fullfilled a life-long dream by starting piano lessons 6 years ago. I know I don't practise enough but vow to set aside more time to do so.
Most recently (2009) I have been fortunate to participate in a Poetry Class at the University of Hawaii. I also facilitate a Visual Poetry Circle at the Osher Lifelong Learning Center. I was recently included in an Anthology "A Bridge to ALL Nations."
