Iím not a writer or a professional anything. Iím just a menopausal mom looking for answers, support and wisdom.
I couldn’t find a self-help book to assist me with coping with my 17 year old son, Adam, leaving the nest to pursue a career with the United States Navy. I found blips and blurbs on the subject in several books, but not enough to be useful. I did find a lot of books on the empty nest for parents of children that have gone off to college, but I was a little insulted that those books were more available than any information on the empty nest of military parents. Did the writers of these books think that joining the military could be lumped into this same category? I think not!
1) College kids don’t swear to protect and serve their country with their lives.
2) Communication for military personnel can be limited
3) The enlisted don’t always come home for holidays and spring break.
