Gaines Johnson was born in 1950 and grew up in Ashland, Kentucky. In the 1960s through 1980 Gaines was a commercial radio and television announcer and engineer in cities across Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. He studied Geology at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia from 1981 through 1985. In 1985 he went to work for the engineering branch of the U.S. Government's Voice of America radio service. In 1986 he was recruited into the U.S. Foreign Service and has served overseas in Central America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In 2005 he was appointed as a member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service. He currently manages a major high-power U.S. Government broadcasting and satellite ground station facility on the Arabian Peninsula.
Outside of his professional career, Mr. Johnson is a learned Bible teacher and proponent of the King James Bible and the Ruin-Reconstruction (Gap Theory) interpretation of Genesis.
