Is PEACE really possible? Many political leaders around planet earth seem to believe that the mass murder, destruction, and misery of war will somehow kill all "the bad guys" and bring us peace! Viewing others as potential enemies instead of potential friends is the insane mindset that keeps the world at war. But we don't have to accept that gloomy picture. Throughout our history every major change for good in our culture was demanded and accomplished by the people!
My passion has been to help co-create a more safe, sane, peaceful world in any way that I'm able with my writing and illustrating stories, writing songs and creating games related to that topic. To me, it seems clear that the climate of "peace" is where creative, cooperative relationships can flourish to the benefit of all. But in the climate of fear, prejudice, distrust, and violence, there are no "wiiners".
Over the past several years I was a guest speaker at a variety of events including, “Dayton’s Answer to Unemployment, the Sisters of Notre Dame meeting on the Bishop’s encyclical on Peace and Justice, the Dayton Inventor’s Club, on the topic of Creativity, and workshops on The Individual’s Role in World Peace. I also conducted an adult education class on how to let go of negative, disabling feelings. By using my cartoon characters, “Reggie Resentment, Andy Anger, Wally Worry, Priscilla Prejudice” and others, class participants were able for the first time, to see their fears in a non-threatening way. One of them actually quit therapy after 7 years because it wasn't solving her problem with "Reggie Resentment", but the non-threatening approach is what was needed for change. As a volunteer at The Dayton International Peace Museum, I assist with education programs for children.
