My name is La'Shawn Allen-Muhammad. I am a New York native, married and am the proud mother of three children under the age of 5. My husband and I work full-time and are committed to making a better life for not only our family, but our community as a whole.
I am new to the writing scene, however, I have years of experience working in the city's non-profit sector. For the past 14 years, I have been an employee with the New York City Health and Hospital's Corporation. Currently, I serve as the Director of Training where I oversee two nursing school programs which provide scholarship opportunities for low-income New Yorker's.
In 1999, I co-founded a community-based organization in the neighborhood where I was born and raised. Our work consisted of training and job placement services, as well as public health awareness projects. In addition, I served on various non-profit boards and committees and was appointed to serve on the local Community Education Council by the Brooklyn Borough President.
This year I am launching "The Entrepreneurs of New York", a membership organization for aspiring and experienced business owners. I am currently working on my first book, which I plan to publish by year's end.
For me, every day is a new opportunity and I am very excited to be a member of the Author's Den!
