For 19 years I had rehabilitated sick, injured and orphaned indigenous wild animals. I was a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator for the State of California Fish and Game Department. I gladly gave up vacations etc..to care for my beloved friends. I am an elderly grandmother now, and the wonderful days of caring for wild anmials has long past. In the last several years I have written many poems; many about animals. Recently I decided to write about Australia. Australia is a country that I have always yearned to vist. I decided to write a poem about it.
My love of poetry stems from my father. Dad would write poetry for the local schools. Dad was afflicted with BiPolar Depression and his way of escape was to write poetry. He wrote a poem that was to be engraved on his headstone, when he passed. It read:
Shed no tears
Nor have no fears
For here I lie at rest
No peace of mind
In life I find
So here I find it best. (Glen L. Paulich)
