I was a compulsory reader since my childhood, when my parents had to hide the piles of comics I used to get in the black market. My first serious readings were the books of Verne, Dumas and Conan Doyle. Then I got into a volume of Aquinas, who introduced me to the rough fields of philosophy. My true master in literature was Borges, whose personal anthology was published in Colombia in 1987. For about nine years I devoured hundreds of novels, essays, short stories and theatre plays. I recalled I had a girlfriend who used to share with me her afternoons reading Shakespeare at the Universidad Javeriana's library. It was only after I moved to the US, that writing became a daily activity. I was fascinating by English, but also for French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Latin and Ancient Greek literature. I moved five years later to Portugal. In 2000 I moved to England, where I wrote most of my poems in English and Spanish. Soon after my novel "NUEVAS TARDES EN MANHATTAN" ("NEW MANHATTAN SOIREES") was published in Barcelona. Since then I have published most of my work online at http://www.hugosantander.com & (Spanish) http://www.castellano.hugosantander.com
