My name is James Riser. I was a contributing editor and columnist
for Gm3r.com from August 2010 to its unfortunate close on March 18th,
2011. I wrote news posts plus a bi-weekly column that focused on
Fighting Games called Quarter Circle Punch. I currently write reviews
for New Game Network. I also have also published many short fiction
stories and a novella with e-book publisher, Wild Child publishing.
I've loved writing since high school. I've written mostly genre
fiction; starting with Horror and eventually Science Fiction. More
recently, I've been trying my hands at poetry, which I've always been
fascinated with but never thought I had the ability to actually
write.
Creatively, I'd love to publish Science Fiction and horror short
stories. I also want to become a better poet, because it's outside of
my comfort zone. Professionally, I'd want to write Video Game news
and reviews for a magazine or major web site for a living. This will
combine my love of Video Games with my knack for writing. Sometimes I
think I'm putting a little too much on my plate, but as time goes on
I'm pretty sure my aspirations will become more focused.
One of my biggest influences is Stephen King, since his work was
what inspired me to start reading on a regular basis. Even though, at
first, I exclusively wrote Horror I started to become more interested
in Science Fiction as well. The work of Isaac Asimov is what turned
me on to the genre and taught me that not every story has to be
heavily action based to make it interesting. Other names on the list
include Clive Barker, Edgar Allen Poe, Timothy Zan, J.K. Rowling,
R.A. Salvatore, H. P. Lovecraft.
Outside of writing, I work two part time jobs and attend college
full time.
