PAPER DREAMS: published on 1st December 2011 - has a fantastic electric blue cover that really grabs you. Open it up!

Background Information

My name is PHYLLIS BURTON and I am married with three grown-up children and seven grandchildren.   I live amongst the beautiful west-Surrey hills in Southern England, which have given me the inspiration to write:  I love putting my thoughts and those of my characters down on paper.   I started writing for my children and eventually moved on to bigger things.  Now, I read my stories to my grandchildren.  I've written quite a few short stories, one of which was recorded and read on radio, and two short-listed in competitions.  I have written three one-act plays, (one produced and directed by me).   I love singing and enjoy water-colour painting.

PAPER DREAMS (my second novel) was published by MATADOR on 1st December, 2011.  The idea started as a tiny seed and just like Pinocchio's nose, it grew.  There is a romantic thread running throuhout the story which covers such diverse subjects as love and its loss, books, letters, family sorrow, obsessions, inheritance, greed, dreams, nightmares and attempted murder.   But above all, it is a story of people's lives, their loves and how they eventually overcome adversity.

Since writing this story, I've found myself feeling a little sorry for my central character Katie, who is described as being a bit of a dreamer:  she has to endure some truly traumatic episodes, but like all true heroines, she wins out in the end...

I've always had an insatiable appetite for reading, and tend to panic if I can't find a book to read.   I like to think that I have inspired my elder son to write too - he will be publishing his second story soon.   My daughter is a copy editor and keeps us all on our toes!   My husband, not to be outdone, is now writing his memoirs.

I had a fantastic launch party on the 2nd December, that turned out to be a good  start to all the Christmas celebrations.     Every author wishes their work to do well and I am no exception.

My first book A PASSING STORM was published by Trafford in 2006.   Everything went slowly but well, until the company was taken over.   Problems with pricing and royalty payments made me remove the title in February 2012.

I contacted Matador - publisher of my second book PAPER DREAMS - and they agreed to reissue the title.   It is on Amazon as an ebook/Kindle (since August) and is now available as a paper-back version on Amazon, my website (, and Matador.   Publication date is in February 2013, but it is available now, and Author Info and Press Releases have just been posted this week.   I painted and designed the cover of A PASSING STORM.

I completed an on-line interview for this story for the magazine FEMALE FIRST.   The BBC are also interested enough to want a copy for future reference...watching with interest.

I feel that A PASSING STORM - a romance - has for too long been languishing in a Trafford POD storage system.   Now that Matador has breathed new life into it, I feel sure that the heroine, Jennifer, will soon find popularity with the reading public.   How does she cope with her life?   Ask a thin, straggly dingo dog in the outback of Australia, for the answer.

I am proud of my first book A PASSING STORM and published in 2006. I painted the picture on the cover.

Additional Information

So far, I have sold quite a few copies of PAPER DREAMS and I've been actively taking copies to well-known retail outlets. I have signed copies of PAPER DREAMS in branches of the Waterstones book chain and am attending various Christmas Fairs to sell some of my books. A PASSING STORM is being relaunched by the publisher of my book PAPER DREAMS after being withdrawn from Trafford Publishing earlier this year. It is now being offered as a Kindle version on and A re-issued paper-back version will be available from the 1st November. A question to ask about A PASSING STORM: How does a dingo-dog in Australia influence Jennifer's love life in England? Clever Dog! Find out how he does it by reading A PASSING STORM.
