Accomplishments

MOTHER JULIAN AND THE GENTLE VAMPIRE, received a Certificate of Merit for the Writer’s Digest 2001 National Self-Published Book Awards. (Note: Writer's Digest defines a book as self-published when the author has paid for most, if not all of the publishing expenses.)
The judge in the 2001 contest wrote:

"Easily one of the most pleasurable books in the genre category, MOTHER JULIAN AND THE GENTLE VAMPIRE took me completely by surprise. Its mindful blend of historical facts and settings with modern-day trappings worked quite well, the past and the present supporting each other as a well-bonded whole. It’s a novel about a vampire, sure. But it’s told as a story with a great deal of heart, philosophy, theology, and . . . well, thinking about such things as the nature of good and evil. The whole thing could have been disastrous, if not for Mr. Pantaleo’s lovely prose, good pacing, and (thank you), a well-tuned sense of humor. It’s meditative without being preachy, insightful and “moralistic” without being precious or condescending.

Lesbiana is a delightful character, and I was also pleased to encounter the historical Mother Julian for the first time ever (she’s worth a novel all her own). The prose is lean and clean and straight-forward, befitting the detective-story bones of the plot.

So, what impresses me most about MOTHER JULIAN AND THE GENTLE VAMPIRE? The fact that someone was able to pull off this tapestry of multiple genre and modern metaphysical elements so well and so movingly. The author should be quite pleased, and there’s no question that this book will find an enthusiastic audience. (It’s one of the best-produced books in the contest. This publisher does good work.)"

Jack Pantaleo's writing and social work have been recognized by the publishers of WHO'S WHO since 1998 and most recently in the millennium editions of WHO'S WHO IN THE WEST, WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA, AND WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD.
His short story, “The Magic Language,” was chosen by the judges of the David Ross Memorial Competition to be included in the 1996 edition of SILVER QUILL.

Jack Pantaleo recently produced his first CD of his harp music. The CD is the companion recording to his novel, MOTHER JULIAN AND THE GENTLE VAMPIRE.

Additional Information

In addition to his published works, Jack has also been produced. His musical, THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE ANGEL JULIUS, has been produced at the Bayfront Theatre at Fort Mason in San Francisco and in several cities in the United States. It has also been translated into German and produced in Hamburg, Germany in April 1999. Jack is also a harpist and composer. He wrote the book, lyrics, and music for THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE ANGEL JULIUS and has composed over 300 solos for the harp. His one-act play, "Uncle Fred's Ex-Straight Ministry," was published by Alyson Publications in WILMA LOVES BETTY in August 1999. He has also been published in magazines such as THE OTHER SIDE and SECOND STONE. The music he composed for his novel, MOTHER JULIAN AND THE GENTLE VAMPIRE, is available on CD or cassette, entitled: SONGS FROM MOTHER JULIAN AND THE GENTLE VAMPIRE.
