Wanda has been writing since she was a child, but for publication since 1980. She graduated from The Institute of Children's Literature course on writing for children and teenagers in August of that year. In 1990 she completed a course on the craft of "Writing Children's Books". In 1997 her first novel, A Merry Heart was accepted for pubication. Since then she has had over 47 books published, with over 4 million books in print. Her books have been on numerous bestseller lists, including: New Yor Times, Publisher's Weekly, ECPA, CBA, and CBD. Many of her books have also been Picks of the Week at CBD. Wanda has also written hundres of short stories, articles, poems, and puppet skits.

In May 1992, Wanda won the grand prize award for her article on ventriloquism with "Children's Writer".
In December 2002, Wanda was voted #4 on the favorite author list during a Heartsong Presents reader's poll. Two of her Amish novels also made the top ten.

In July 2006 Wanda's novel The Storekeeper's Daughter won the Christian Retailer's Choice Award for Women's Fiction.

In Feb. 2009 Wanda's novel, Betsy's Return was voted favorite historical novel by readers of Heartsong Presents.
