I studied English & American Literature at the University of Kent in Canterbury (UK) and graduated in 1973. This marked a turning point in my life and literary aspirations as, for the first time, I began to understand not only how literature 'works' but how the different genres have so much in common.
For an Englishman, it was particularly interesting to look closely at American literature, a prevailing influence in my writing. Even so, it was 1993 before I started submitting poetry for publication and over 450 poems have since appeared in various UK and overseas poetry magazines and anthologies.
In 1999, I created my own imprint - Assembly Books - under which I have published four major volumes of poetry in a planned quartet under the title Love And Human Remains. All four books are arranged in loosely themes sections for easy reading. They are Love And Human Remains, First Person Plural, The Third Eye & A Feeling For The Quickness Of Time. In 2007, I published a supplementary volume of new poems under the title Accomplices To Illusion. Like the others, it has a central gay section and includes poems on a gay theme alongside poetry on other major themes. My next collection will be called On The Battlefields Of Love and is on track for publication in 2010.
I write my poetry collections as R. N. Taber and many UK public libraries stock them. Some of my poems can be accessed online by keywording "roger taber poet". Readers have submitted reviews for my collections on amazon.co.uk (under R. N. Taber).
I have also written several novels that (so far) remain unpublished. One novel - Blasphemy - was published by GLB Publications (San Francisco) in September 2006; it is also being distributed in the UK and the rest of Europe by Gazelle Book Services (Lancs). Blasphemy is a complete novel but also Book 1 of a planned trilogy.(Blasphemy - Sacrilege - Redemption) At the time of writing there is at least one review on amazon.co.uk for Blasphemy (see under Roger N. Taber). Due to a change of policy by GLB, Book 2 of the trilogy will be published by Assembly Books in December 2008.
