Expert on landscape plants and allergies. I'm a rose breeder, energetic-fun speaker, writer, lizard collecting nut, birder, a rock hound, and I love to read, study, laugh, sing, and fish. I've got an MS degree in Agriculture/Horticulture and did all my graduate work on pollen, plant flowering systems and allergies.  

I'm open to any awards anyone would like to give me! An exhibit based on my work did win the Silver Medal at the fabulous Chelsea Flower and Garden Show in London.

I'm the author of five published books; I'm best known for Allergy-Free Gardening, from Ten Speed Press, July 2000...and also for, Safe Sex in the Garden, also from Ten Speed Press. I do consulting for the American Lung Association, the USDA, the California Department of Health, for some nursery and landscape associations, for individuals and for allergists. I also answer my own e-mails!

The Highway Naturalist
I just finished writing a new book called The Highway Naturalist...a book about chasing nature, camping in the boondocks, birds, fish, rocks, raccoons, gemstones, snakes, lizards; about roaming around the USA living out of the back of my truck & all the crazy things that happen out on the road. I wrote a song about it, first called "I Brake for Snakes," but we changed it to The Highway Naturalist.
