About my writing:
Like most everyone else here, I too am a writer looking to network with other writers. You can find info about me and my writing on my blog at http://eknano.blogspot.com
Mostly I write short stories: 5,000 - 10,000 words, mostly in horror and sci-fi, I also write comic book scripts, and children's fantasy books; plus I have a couple of novels as well.
A few of my things are published, others are floating around waiting to be published.
I also write non-fiction articles for web sites, blogs, and magazines, which bring in a small but steady income. I plan to eventually make this my #1 income source. My non-fiction topics vary widely and cover most every aspect of things I do in my own life, however, my main focus stays on writing how-to articles about writing fiction, pets, sewing, gardens, and farming. I also write reviews for books, movies, tv shows, and comic books.
My true passion is writing ballets and stage plays, but as of yet none of them have been produced. My goal this year is to get at least one of my ballets or plays on stage this year.
For the most part I self-publish. I self publish because I prefer to have 100% control of my books...cover, font, distribution, you name it. You see, what I did was to actually start my own publishing house. I do not go through any publishing house, either one that pays me or one that asks me to pay them. To get my books printed up, I deal directly with the printer or print shop themselves. I used to use local print shops (copy shops), but as my publishing business grew, I expanded to an online printer instead, because it was cheaper in the long run.
(Before any one asks, I'll answer your question: No. I am not looking for submissions to my publishing house... all of the books published through it are written by me, my family members, a couple of relatives, and a few close personal friends. I have to add this note to this post, because the last forum I mentioned my publishing house on, resulted in a flood of emails with manuscript submissions in my inbox! AWK! It's a self-publishing publishing house just for me and my family and no one else. Okay? Thank you.)
I'm also an active blogger with several blogs going.
Well, that's my writing, now for more about me:
My name is Wendy C. Allen, and for those who know me, I am of course EelKat of EelKat's Twisted Tales, and for those of you who do not know me, well, I'm still EelKat. I am a writer of the Gothic, Horror, and Science Fiction genres. I am an artist who loves to draw and paint pictures of cats and dogs and birds and roosters and flamingos and peacocks, and I sell my art online via CafePress and Zazzle.
Since being an author and an artist does not pay enough to live on, I also have a day job as a Macy's sales associate. This is my second year with Macy's. Before that I was an Avon representative for 7 years. And before that I took a two year course in fashion design. And before that I was a home school student via Christian Liberty Academy.
I have dyslexia, which makes my writing career a challenge, as it greatly hampers my ability to spell correctly, without the help of a spell checker, however it is an obstacle that I am fighting to overcome and in the past two years, my spelling has improved greatly.
I love cats, dogs, roosters, birds, and esp. eels. (Have or have had pets of all of the above.) I was raised on a farm among hens and roosters and horses and ducks and most every other animal you can think of. Today that farm has been converted (by me) into a rescue for feral cats and roosters. I currently have a cocker spaniel, 10 cats, and 200+/- bantams.
In alphabetical order: I like Alan Rickman, Alice Cooper, American History, birds, candy, Carl Barks, cats, C*C*DeVille, Colombo, comic books, Darkwing Duck, David Bowie, Disney, dogs, Don Rosa, Donald Duck, dvds, eels, Etiole, fashion, Gothic, haunted houses, horror, Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp, Kieth Laumer, movies, NegaDuck, pigeons, Prof. Snape, Retief, roosters, sci-fi, Scrooge McDuck, Sir Roderic, Twighlight Manor, Uncle Scrooge, video games, Vincent Price, Willy Wonka, writing, Zorro.
I am a huge fan of Don Rosa and his book The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Of course that means I'm also a huge fan of Carl Barks and his art work and stories as well.
My fave writers (after Don Rosa and Carl Barks) are Kieth Laumer (Retief) and Douglass Adams (Hitchhicker's Guide To The Galaxy & Dr. Who).
My fave TV shows are Darkwing Duck, X-Files, Star Trek (original), Dr. Who (Tom Baker), Xena, Colombo, and Sherlock Holmes staring Jeremy Brett.
My fave singers are C*C*DeVille, Poison, David Bowie, and Alice Cooper.
I love living near the ocean, I love the smell of the salt air, the sound of the waves, the feel of the sand between my toes... nothing in the world is better than living on the cold icy North Atlantic Ocean!
I was born and rasied on a coastal southern Maine poultry farm. Most of my time is spent with my family and my 200 pets.
As a general rule I write Gothic, Horror, and Science Fiction. More specificaly, I write stories about the haunted house known as The Twighlight Manor, an ancient mansion built by aliens as their space dock on the planet Earth: Space Dock 13.
I also write childrens stories, including The Adventures of Pink Frog series, and several retellings of classic folk stories and fairy tales, often twisted into dark horror.
My other writing habits include comic books, plays, and ballet.
I am a Disney Duck historian and have written countless articles about Scrooge McDuck, Darkwing Duck, Don Rosa, and Carl Barks.
I working towards my goal of owner the worlds largest Disney comic book collection, I have thousands of issues, but there have been over 170,000 made and hundreds more made each year, so I've still got a long ways to go. The current world record is 24,000.
As a vegitarian, animal rights activist, I am a member of the LCA, PETA, the Human Society, and many other such organizations.
I live on a no-kill poultry farm, on land that's been in my family since 1657, which has become the home of over 200 stray, abbandoned, and rescued animals...includeing 8 cats, 2 dogs, a pigeon, 2 budgies, and the rest are all hens and roosters, mostly roosters.
I love visting chat rooms and message boards, esp those about comic books, and you can often find me yapping away on them.
PS: I love smilies!
