I am a pastor of a couple of small churches in upstate New York. When I was younger I wrote over 400 songs and a book of poetry, but now that I am old, I have ventured into the world of fantasy fiction. My major influences as a fiction writer are as follows: C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Stephen R. Donaldson inspired me with their creations of other worlds and mythologies. Louis L'Amour gave me his romanticism and readability. Larry McMurtry showed me how to create characters of depth and memorability. From Frederick Buechner I learned how to write about spiritual longing, frustration, and desire. And for good measure, a dash of A. A. Milne adds an appealing trace of whimsy.
