On a foggy Cape Cod night in 1984, I was struck head on by a drunk driver. I was 34, a mother of a 5 year old, wife, full-time employee, student, and President of a local community theater in Barnstable.
I wasn't suppose to live let alone be independent and drive again. But after 6 months in hospitals and rehabs I came home. There were many changes and losses. I had to learn to accomodate them and accept them. I had to find my new identity. I found it and have been an ardent disability advocate ever since.
