Age? Well, I’m not supposed to reveal that, but a sure sign I’m on the downhill slope is that lately I’ve been hearing my favorite songs played in elevators. I’m a Virgo-compromised female, very disciplined and have a strict regimen that I adhere to: I write four hours a day, play golf four hours a day, quilt for a couple hours, and watch Seinfeld reruns; these tasks are accomplished whenever the

Background Information

I have traveled the world writing about my experiences in foreign countries such as Iran (very foreign), Thailand (very happy), as well as non-foreign places like New Orleans (very kinky), Orange County, CA. (very last week), and Lake Chelan, Washington (very old-world-lovely). I am married, have had four children who gave me nine grandchildren--a compensation I like to think for growing old. I spend my writer’s life between Eastern Washington’s Beautiful Lake Chelan and Southern California’s balmy Palm Desert.

Birth Place
Glendale, CA USA

I’ve amassed numerous awards for my writing and poetry, among them the prestigious Southern California Writer’s Conference First Place Award for “Best Nonfiction” for A Broad Abroad, as well as First Place in their inaugural Poetry Award. I am a prize-winning author, snagging first and second place prizes in literary contests. I attended Cerritos College Creative Writing Program, and College of the Desert Journalism and Magazine Writing programs, plus I have a clothes hamper full of writing accolades, certificates, degrees and rejection slips. My first book, A Broad Abroad in Thailand won First Place in National Indy Excellence Awards, as well as Silver in Forword's Book of the Year Contest.

Additional Information

My articles have appeared in the Palm Desert Sun, the Seattle Post Intelligencer and as a guest columnist for the Lake Chelan Mirror in Washington State. Excerpts from Abroad have been published in several Expat E-Zines, The University of Texas Literary Magazine,RiverSedge. I am now fast at work on my next memoir: A Broad Abroad in Iran: One Strappy-Sandled Foot Ahead of the Mullahs: An Expat's Misadventures in Iran before and during the Revolution.

A Broad Abroad in Thailand: An Expat's Misadventures in The Land of Smiles
A Broad Abroad in Thailand follows a newlywed expat as she tries to settle into her new home and a life full of unforeseen challenges. Soon after her arrival in this exotic land, her problems begin: as she tries to learn the subtleties of the eastern squat toilet; then the fatal auto accident on the deadly highway that should have taken her life; to the final insult—bladder surgery by an inscrutable Thai doctor who decides to restore her virginity, while an intolerant nurse is after her with a vengeance─and an enema tube. She leaves the hospital A.M.A. (Against Medical Advise) and then must be medivac’d back to the States with her catheter tube swaying in the breeze. As if that’s not enough to slow down even the most determined of women, she must also deal with her new husband’s insatiable testosterone level─a textbook case of sexual fixation. Interwoven throughout her day-to-day life is the undercurrent of absolute control and jealousy perpetrated by a most unlikely source: the boss's wife, Ms. Anorexia, who manipulates the wives of the employees with her need to control every aspect of their lives: from shopping, to entertainment, to friends. An unflagging sense of humor helps her through most obstacles, in a land whose people she has come to respect and admire, through times of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

About the author

Next book: A Broad Abroad in Iran: One Strappy-Sandaled Foot Ahead of the Mullahs.
It's July, 1977, in Esfahan, Iran, one year before the bloody start of the revolution, and two years before the U.S. Embassy take-over, when expatriate Dodie Cross finds herself in a strange world, somewhere between the Old Testament and the Space Age. Her life takes on twists and turns as she tries to acclimate to the soaring changes in temperature and altitude, culture and attitude. She suffers indignities as she's pinched on the bum at the bazaar; grabbed on the breast by a motorcycle passenger - who doesn't let go for a block - as she crosses the street with her arms weighted down with groceries; chased and rocked by angry country dwellers as she soars down a whitewater river in a raft, and comes across the stoning of an adulterous woman in a place she should never have been: the bowels of the bazaar. In 1978 she takes a job as secretary to the head of Security at Bell Helicopter, and soon learns of the civil unrest in the capital as thousands of fist-waving radicals gather in the streets screaming for the removal of the Shah and death to Americans. As the riots escalate in her small town, and martial law brings in tanks, she knows it's time to leave. Her wake-up call is a Polaroid that comes across her desk picturing a fire-bombed bus with bodies lying about - the same type of bus that would be transporting her children to school in one month. She tries to convince her husband and his company friends of the danger, but they disregard her fears as paranoia, while the company offers the men a ten-thousand dollar bonus to stay on for another year. She handles most things thrown her way, but as the revolution becomes a reality, and her children are in danger, she gives her husband an ultimatum: "Stay here, or leave with me. Either way, I'm outta here."
