Born, raised and educated in Colombia,JAMES CAÑÓN moved to New York to study English and later earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. His stories have appeared in numerous literary journals, and have been anthologized in Bésame Mucho, (Painted Leaf Press), and Virgins, Guerrillas & Locas, (Cleis Press). His debut novel, Tales from the Town of Widows & Chronicles from the Land of Men, has been published in thirteen countries. He is currently at work on his second novel. He lives in Queens, New York.

Accomplishments

Honors and awards for Cañón's writing have come from the NYFA, the Henfield Foundation, the Queens Council on the Arts, and the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts. He has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, Blue Mountain Center and the Millay Colony.
