Native Washingtonian, Afrika Abney has more than 10 years experience in the arts, event planning, special program design and implementation, workshop presentation and general administration for various individuals, mid-sized and small organizations, and private companies. Cultivating and influencing several diverse groups in the east coast, her work has impacted people directly in sectors such as academic, faith- based institutions, neighborhood civic groups, and other community based groups. Her background includes significant experience with the arts, computer software programs, Internet research, marketing/promotion, graphic designing, media relations, grant writing, and database maintenance/record management.
Afrika has inspired non- traditional leaders to create positive action steps to address issues that are important in the lives of people. She has an extensive training in the arts and trained young people in the areas of the arts, education and self-empowerment.
Afrika received much recognition for her art, particularly from the D.C. Commission on the Arts, including numerous grants and a nomination for Outstanding Emerging Artist in 2001. Her works have been published, commissioned and on display in both solo and group exhibitions. Additionally, Afrika's work has been praised as imaginative, expressive, and unique.
She contributes her success to believing in the capacity of all people and recognizing the cultural arts as a valuable tool for empowerment and spirituality. Furthermore, Afrika believes in creating an image filled with light, peace, hope, and harmony. She continues to focus on delivering effective promotional tools for individuals, organizations or private companies through innovative advanced technologies, as well as to provide affordable services for all.
