I invite you to peer into the shadows of Spain's past and meet one of her most cherished icons, St. James, the Greater.

Background Information

This is my personal reflection on the history behind the enigmatic St. James, Spain's Santiago de Compsotela, the routes of pilgrimage to his shrine, their origins in pre-Christian beliefs and symbolism. This journey contains narratives, which emerge from an ancient historical reality, through legendary accounts based on popular histories and cross-cultural lore. Ultimately, the cult of Santiago finds expression in a mythic narrative that speaks to a millenniums-old universal interior voice.

Robert Hodum studied archaeology, history and Spanish language and literature at Gettysburg College. After attending the Bolivariana University and the University of Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia, he completed his undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University focusing on Latin American history and Spanish and Latin American literature. His graduate degree at SUNY at Stony Brook focused on Latin American history and Spanish culture and civilization.
