I was not even out of medical school - UCSD La Jolla School of Medicine - when I experienced my first few incidents of doctors killing patients. Think I'm talking about "medical errors?" Not even close. The subject here is flat-out, egotistical, 'I-can-do-whatever-I-want' Homicide. These were seriously ugly realities for a wide-eyed intern.
So I started taking notes, just to keep a private, personal record of the murder & mayhem around me. I had no intention of publicizing the notes. I keep then merely to clear my head. Fast forward 25 years and - while quietly discussing our medical pet peeves with a partner over dinner in a Palm Springs restaurant - we were a bit surprised when an elderly woman near us leaned over and said, "You really need to write a book." She was a literary agent, and she handed me her card.
Two years later, "America's Dumbest Doctors" was born.
