Although I'm trained as a journalist -- received my master's from Northwestern University -- my initial interest in the subject of "sugar addiction" and the dangers of sugars and refined carbs began with my own experiences, bedause I was besieged by a host of baffling ailments, including ferocious headaches, befudding "brain fog," crippling fatigue, unpredictable lethargy and much more. Ultimately, on doctor's orders, I quit sugar and refined carbs, and presto, all my symptoms disappeared, and I became a new woman, full of energy, optimism and joie de vivre. For my book SUGAR SHOCK!, I interviewed some 250 health experts (researchers, nutritionists, doctors, public health advocates, industry insiders) and connected with thousands of self-described "sugar addicts." Although SUGAR SHOCK! dishes the sour news about sweets, ultimately it gives you a message of hope and it offers some tips to break out of sugar shock. I'm now at work on my next book, Beyond Sugar Shock, for Hay House.
