Humphrey Hawksley is a BBC foreign correspondent and acclaimed writer of international thrillers. On his first foreign reporting assignment he was expelled from Sri Lanka because of its investigations into its civil war. He's been posted to India, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Beijing where he opened the BBC's first ever television bureau. He now lives in London and since Nine Eleven has reported extensively on Islamic terror and intelligence and democracy issues from all over the world.
After leaving school, he worked on a cargo freighter, got off in Australia, and got jobs as a fuit picker, cable layer, railroad worker and yacht builder before becoming a reporter.
