Arkansas girl living in Texas.

Background Information

I was born in Texas, raised in Arkansas, went to college in Louisiana, graduated, moved back to Arkansas. I taught school for three years in Smackover, AR. I then married a hometown boy(man) who was in the army, moved to Arizona and lived there for six years. We were then assigned to Texas. Twelve years later, we're still here with our three children. My husband's retired from the army but he can't stay away from the Department of Defense because he's a government employee. I've chosen to stay home for my children even though they're all in school. We had homeschooled in the past, which is when I wrote this book. I had always been telling my children bits and pieces of my life and I put some of the truth from my childhood into this fictional book for them. That's not the only reason I wrote my book, "The Night We Saw the Fouke Monster," I wanted it to be a project in our homeschooling, for them to see the process it takes to finish a work. As I would write, I would stop and read to them and ask them to critique and advise me of where to go next. As any homeshool parent can tell people, we not only want them to learn academics but for the real world to be tangent to them and not somewhere far off. I wanted them to see the work it takes for a long range goal. I wanted to honor my grandparents and parents in this book even though they are not the main characters. I also enjoyed the out of body experience I got when something took hold of me and the words poured out and forged this story. Yes, this story is for children, written from a children's point of view and has them doing things that we adults know would probably never happen that way. Hey, children can fantasize, right?! After all, how many kids think they can karate chop a burglar and make him run away? I think all three of my children have thought that, especially my boy. Anyway.........even if my book never gets read anywhere else but in my family, my children will have a piece of me even after I'm gone.
