I have been writing ever since I could read and have recently embarked on a freelance career(Not the first time I've tried, but it looks like this time will 'stick'. Yay!)As the single mother of four, it has been a struggle to get myself launched, but now that three of my four children have left the nest, I can finally devote a decent amount of time and energy into this wonderful passion which is the written word.
Several influences on my fictional works would be - Andre Norton, Isaac Asimov, Anne McCaffrey, Piers Anthony, Robert Asprin, Terry Brooks, Terry Pratchett and of course the 'Hitchhikers Guide' series and 'Harry Potter' Books. And that barely scratches the surface. If I were to name every author or work here, there would be no room for other lists of inspiration.
I have also found stimulation for my muse in television and theater such as Star Trek(all series past and present), Rod Serling and Outer Limits. More modern favorites include 'Lost', 'Heroes', 'Bones', 'CSI'(all 3 series) and just about anything on the Sci-Fi channel. I also enjoy Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neill and Gilbert & Sullivan, to name a few playwrites. Again, this is a bare bones list, because there simply isn't enough room for them all.
This is not to say that I am a total fiction geek because I also enjoy reading or watching any number of documentaries in most forms. For example; Wild Kingdom, Animal Planet, Jacques Cousteau or just about any other nature show. The History Channel, PBS and Carl Sagan are also favorites of mine.
To top things off, I am an amateur Archeology/Anthropoly/Paleontology buff. The more I learn, the more I want to learn. About everything. And I try to bring these various elements together in both my story-telling and my informational works.
