Born in the Bronx and raised in East L.A., I've been drawing and writing since age five or so. My first illustrated story, "Johnny Space," was about a sort of galactic cop with a soft heart.
I have written and edited movie reviews, video scripts and storyboards (and budgets), and magazine articles. Currently I am working on a feminist sci-fi novel, Zohu, and researching my autobiography.
Major influences? Not enough room to list them all. My favorite dead author is Aldous Huxley and my favorite living author is John Barth. I really like Dickens, Wollstonecraft, Joyce, Shaw, Wells, Thoreau, Mark Twain and William F. Burroughs.
I have just finished reading The Wise Wound (Shuttle and Redgrove) and am re-reading Ursula K. LeGuin Other current favorites are Margaret Atwood, William Goldman, Marge Piercy, Philip Roth, Charlene Spretnak Alice Walker and John Zerzan.
I live in Northern Cali with my family. We are vegan venturing into raw foods. We enjoy dinner with friends, plays and poetry readings, and quiet evenings at home. In better weather we garden and grow some of our own food. Politically we are quite left of center and support Mike Gravel for president.
I was an audio engineer (sound technician) for 20 years and a video producer the last 12 of those years. My day job for 13 years was schoolteacher. Currently I work for a non-profit, assisting people with disabilities.
