I'm not looking to be the next Faulkner or Hemingway. I just want to be known as a good story teller, someone who spins a good yarn. I love science fantasy and thrillers. As a scientist, I also love to explore new realities. Anything to escape. I got my doctorate in medical microbiology from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago then did three years of post-doctoral research at the Univerity of Illinois Medical Center also in Chicago. I'm a virologist by training and spent six years (1984-1990) overseas in Kuwait working with the World Health Organization on the global poliovirus eradication program. I used to be fluent in Arabic but I'm a little rusty now. I've worked almost all my life inventing new instrument and chemical technologies for detecting viruses and bacteria and dissecting abnormalities in cancer. One of my patents, for the Invader technology for detecting genetic mutations, has been valued at $350 million. Unfortunately, I don't see a dime...but I do have some very nice plaques on my walls. My writing springs from my love of science and discovery. Virtually anything new catches my interest. I'd been toying with ideas for a book series for quite a while and finally got off my backside and started it.
