I am a retired attorney and a reluctant author. After discovering scads of material about my grandfather, Guy T. Viskniskki, in my mom's house after her death, I realized that someone should write about him. Guy founded The Stars and Stripes newspaper in France during World War I. He left a 437 page manuscript detailing his experiences during the first year of the newspaper when he was editor-in-chief and officer-in-charge. I used that, along with newspaper articles and family history, to write the story of his life and how he was able to start a newspaper in wartorn France.
I wrote because I wanted my children and grandchildren to know about my grandfather. My husband encouraged me to actually publish the book instead of just photocopying it and giving to eight people. At the time I wasn't so sure about it but I am glad that the book is out there and that Guy's story is finally being told. So now Unsung Patriot is out there.
